Is the traxxas rustler vxl brushless rc car any good?
im interested in getting an electric rc car. im thinking of a stock slash or a rustler vxl. im only interested in the stock slash cuz i hear alot about durability and the water proof engine etc. but im also interested in getting the rustler vxl because i can get it pretty cheap and it sounds like a good fast car. but is it durable? give me some pros and cons about it? what kinda maintenance is needed?
i would get rustler xl-5 over vxl. reason being is that unless you want to dump $100 on a lithium charger and over $100 per battery pack, it is too expensive. the rustler, slash, and stampede are all very durable. i never broke a single part on my stampede and that was with letting my non rc friends try and crash into things. i had a xl-5 stampede which i sold after a year intending on getting a vxl, but then i realized that it wasnt gonna be much faster if i used the same batteries, i would have to invest a couple hundred dollars in batteries, instead i bought a team losi aftershock(1/8 scale nitro monster truck)
in case you didnt know, the rustler and stampede are nearly the same.
the slash, rustler, and stampede are all waterproof in xl-5 form. if i were you, i would get an xl-5 vehicle and buy a couple 7-cell packs. i believe that you have to have 7 cell hump packs on the stampede and i assume it is the same on the others but im not sure. i only had 6cell packs and felt it needed just a bit more power. try to get 7 cell packs that are close if not above 400mAh
Pros for vxl:extremely fast with correct batteries, car itself isnt too expensive
Cons for vxl: expensive batteries, expensive charger, you need some experience to control an rc car going upwards of 60 mph
Pros for xl-5: inexpensive car, reasonable batteries, reasonable charger, WATERPROOF, beginner friendly.
Cons for xl-5: ummmmmmmmmmmmm, after a year it may seem slow but if you have 7 cell battery its ok.
i dont know about vxl maintenence but i had to adjust gear mesh 2 times on my stampede but that is very easy to do. it doesnt get too dirty because it is electric

Do LiFePO4 batteries expand when charging?
I bought some LiFePO4 batteries from MaxAmps.com for my 1/16 scale Traxxas Slash and they arrived before my charger/balancer for them arrived. So in my impatience, I went ahead and used the charger that came with the NiMH battery that was included with the slash. While charging them i noticed they were expanding. So I am wondering if i should by new ones because these a broken.
These are Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries not Lithium Polymer batteries.

LI-POLY BATTERIES DO NOT LIKE TO BE ABUSED! THEY WILL VENT TO FLAME.
They are probably ruined. Lithium Poly batteries are very serious batteries and will burst into flame if they are not charged correctly or are dropped…. any abuse!
LiPo charge differently than NiCd or NiMH.

what is better traxxas e-maxx brushed or the traxxas stampede vxl?
witch is better like the battery,motor,price,etc.
can you upgrade the motor on the e-maxx because it says it only goes 30mph and the stampede goes 65+?
Two totally different trucks: the e-Maxx brushed runs two titan 550 motors and is probably $50 more (right now) than the Stampede VXL (~$369 v. $319 at hobbypeople today). The E-Max is physically bigger, heavier and a little more expensive to fix, but it has a TON of aftermarket parts. The E-Max is 4 wheel drive and has a two speed transmission. The Stampede is a little lighter/smaller and also has a bunch of aftermarket parts. It’s only two wheel drive – which can be a lot of fun also. Keep in mind that you will likely want to buy LIPO (more expensive than Nimh) batteries if you go brushless. This also means you’ll need a more expensive charger. They are both excellent trucks and a lot of fun. I think the new VXL system is also waterproof, so you can run both of them in water if you wish.
It really boils down to your preference as to 4 wheel drive v. 2 wheel drive? What are your friends driving? It’s nice to have a comparable truck so that you can race/bash with friends. If the people you’re going to drive with all have 4wd revos and emaxxes, then you probably want to go the same route – if they are running 2wd slashes, bandits and stampedes, then I’d do the same. How fast will a Traxxas E-Maxx go with a HV6.5 High-Voltage Sensored Brushless Motor?
I am trying to diecide if it is worth getting or not or if I should go with the 4.5, but the shorter run times of the 4.5 saddens me. So how much faster is an Emaxx with the 6.5 as compared to a stock Emaxx?
It is alot faster. The 6.5 is almost a third faster and more easy to use.

hobbyking.com has the cheapest. It would be about 25$ plus shipping. On the opposite end you have maxamps which would run upwards of $100 for a brand new. tons of batteries fall in between. check out towerhobbies.com horizonhobby.com etc. I run 2 hobbyking 3s 5000mah in a brushless summit and power and capacity are exactly what they are rated at. One puffed but was replaced under their warranty. if you still need help let me know
