What is the best radio head for my price budget and needs?
I’m looking to replace my Radio Head in my 2002 Ford Escape. Circuit City is offering free installation on orders over $99, so my price range is $99-$175.
I want to be able to hook my iPOD to it, and I want to be able to still go through my songs ON my iPOD, not on the radio head display. (I hear it’s a pain in the ass).
I’d also like Bluetooth calling, (how is that? I don’t see how it works…if its going through the speakers won’t there be alot of feedback on the other end of the call?)
And I have Sirius Satellite hooked up in my car, maybe control it through that too?
If my current radio is a 6-cd changer, when I replace it, will I no longer have that?
One more thing, do radio heads enhance the quality of the music? If so, I’d like one that puts out good quality as well and has a good range of options…
Pioneer is a good brand, but for all the options you want, you’re looking at quite a bit more than $175 bluetooth for example is a high dollar item still, sirius and ipod should be no problem though…

Can I train my Border Collie to “herd” a remote controlled car?
I know its not really “herd”ing, but I thought I’d be a fun game. As I don’t have sheep & the closest place to me wont take them for training till they are 18 months ( She is 7 months ), I thought it’d be a fun game.
Get her to down while chasing something, to circle the car and “drive” it to me (I know I’ll be “driving”, but I think I can make her feel like she’s controlling the cars movement), to learn not to bite the mechanical “sheep” in car clothing .
I donno, just something I thought as I passed Toys R Us on the way home from work, wondered if anyone else tried anything like that? Obviously, like anything with a pup, I wouldn’t over do it, but my little ball of energy could always use something else to make run for 5-10 min.
I use a remote controlled car to help reduce ‘wheel chaser’ dogs ( cars, bikes, skates etc) and for ‘chase recall’ work(dogs who don’t come back when called because there is always something better)………….I have to say both my BCs try to round it up and both are trained to sheep, my older one does for a few seconds and then comes and stands next to me……and has even picked up the remote control in her mouth as if to tell me she knows my game and is not impressed and the younger one gets frustrated and goes in and bites it because I can’t control it quick enough for her or in or in the correct direction she decides it should be going…………..but hey have a go you will soon know if your reactions are quick enough.

What is the purpose of dual exhausts on cars, and those strange round ones on rice burners?
I have seen numerous cars with dual exhaust mufflers on them. I know that many Muscle cars of the 1960′s, 1970′s and 1980′s had dual exhaust but I don’t know what the purpose of this is. Does it improve performance or just help push more exhaust gas out of the engine faster, or just for noise or looks?
And what is with those weird round mufflers that are on a lot of small street racer cars that make them sound like RC cars? Do these increase performance?
And one more question about mufflers. Why are Motorcycle engines louder than car engines considering that they are much smaller than most if not all car engines. Yet you can hear some crouch rockets almost a 1/2 mile away after they have past you not a car. Is it because the engine is smaller and the muffler smaller that Motorcycles are louder?
Fahims pretty much got it but hank doesn’t know what he’s talking about. It’s not any easier to route 2 pipes, it’s easier to shove it all on one side (that’s why not every car rolling off the lot has duals usually…and the fact that there’s two of everything to build). Duals are good because they provides more space for the escaping gas, thus faster flowing, thus less pressure on left in the cylinders and more room for the air and gas to get in…basically, it MAY increase horse power if the single exhaust was the limiting factor on the power before. The other way it increases power is that when it’s true duel exhaust, the pipes come straight back from the headers on each bank and straight out the back (after stopping for the catalytic converters and mufflers of course) with minimal curves or bends in between. The fewer the bends and curves, the easier the air flows through and the quicker it get’s out, thus possibly increasing power in the manner I described above. With a single exhaust for a V engine (2 banks at about 60 degrees) at least one of the bank’s exhaust has to curve over to the other side with a Y-pipe. That’s more curves and bends. Also, unless the pipe is big enough to compensate, there will be more back pressure on the system. Basically, in MOST cases, duals are a better system.
Now, on to the ricers. The “fart cannons,” as us American muscle guys like to refer to them as, are just pipes with massive resonators and tips on the end of them that make them sound idiotic. Some of them will add a minuscule amount of power, but most of them add some bark to the dogs with no bite. That’s not to say no Japanese performance cars are fierce, because there are some well created beasts out there that more than hold their own against American muscle, but there’s a whole lot more sentra’s and civic’s that sound like dying lawnmowers.
And Fahim nailed it mostly, motorcycles just don’t have the length of exhaust to quiet the internal combustion down. Crotch rockets tend to have really high RPM’s too (some as high as 18,000 or more!) which makes for loud exhaust. Also, there’s a lot of dampening materials in cars that can absorb the sound but not much in a motorcycle. Motorcycle enthusiasts also don’t mind loud exhaust as it provides some safety incase a car hears you but doesn’t see you (and manufacturers are mindful of this). Hope this answers your questions!

You will have to consider these benefits compared with what exactly you want to do with your car. Here are the three main ways that you can power a radio controlled car.
The first and most basic way to power a remote controlled car is to have a battery pack running the motors. This is the kind of system that you will see in beginning cars. If implemented correctly, it can be fairly effective. Its main strong point is that it is very light. Cars using electric power can reach all new levels of lightness. However, like all of the options, there is a tradeoff: electric cars are the slowest of them all. So, you will have to decide whether you want a light car that handles well, or a speed demon that will tear up the competition. And that brings us to the next choice, which is definitely a bit speedier than the electric option.
Gas-powered cars are by far the most common when you are looking at hobby grade cars. The equipment required to handle all of the gas and combustion weighs quite a bit, and tends to make the car less agile. However, it makes up for this deficiency by being one the fastest choices. These types of motor kits are very easy to find. If you want one for your car, your best bet would be to look in some online specialty shops, or your local hobby shop. While it is not necessarily a positive aspect in my book, the fact that the cars are much louder when they run on gasoline seems to attract some people, who enjoy creating the noisy little machines.
RC cars that run on nitro gasoline are quickly becoming the most popular and fastest growing segment of remote control cars. Nitro vehicles can come in many different forms. You can build the popular and durable trucks that will take jumps at high speeds and go on off road driving courses. Alternatively, if you are trying to reach very high speeds, you can build the type of racecar that is meant to speed along pavement, tracks or other prepared surfaces. As with gas, nitro requires the heavy motor equipment that some people find cumbersome. However, they are perfect if you want to swap out your electric motor during a race or other event.
If you build your car the right way and avoid attaching the engine in permanently, you can switch whenever you feel a different one would be more appropriate. The average remote control enthusiast will accumulate quite a few different engines over the years, and will become familiar with which ones are best to use in a given situation. So don’t worry too much about buying the wrong engine and being “stuck” with something that you didn’t want. Just consider the pros and cons of each one, and compare them with your goals with your remote control car project. Think about how much speed you want, compared to how much agility or how much turning speed. If you have a local hobby store that stocks all of the different types of engines, then go in and ask to test drive a few of them to get a feel for the type of engine.
