Best R/C truck for my 9 yo son for Christmas?
It’s been YEARS since I was into RC seriously, so I’m sort of out of the loop with not a lot of time to research. My 9yo son wants a “real” RC car for Christmas, can anyone recommend a good starter RC that meets the following criteria?
1. Electric
2. Inexpensive (not cheap)
3. Stadium truck or tall buggy for playing with in the front yard (grass, driveway, gravel, etc)
4. Perfect for young (9yo) first timer, to give him experience of building an RC, without deep pockets of a carbon fiber “racing” model.
Thanks!
(BTW: I currently have my own, Nitro Evader gas truck that we play with together, but it’s a PITA because it’s gas and needs a lot of tinkering, plus it’s very delicate (or too fast) because every time I run it, I’m replacing control arms or suspension components) so durability would be a REALLY nice feature since he’ll more than likely be a very crazy driver at first.

The Heart of Your RC Car
Today the kids and adults are alike in terms of their past time. Both are engaged in radio controlled cars. They purchase these cars at the toy stores. RC cars provide an endless amount of thrill and excitement and serve as their leisure.
Radio controlled cars are consist of two units which is the car itself and the radio controller. Some radio controlled cars are powered by rechargeable batteries and some were powered by batteries with actual gas-powered engines. Gas powered engines are more expensive than electric powered engines.
RC cars are of different types. There’s the off-road and on-road vehicles, touring and racing cars, trucks and buggies. Aside from this, you can also choose on the size, color, type of car like Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches. You also have an option to choose from gas powered or electric engine and if it’s a car or truck type.
The four main parts of radio controlled vehicles are the motor(s), transmitter, receiver and the power source.
Transmitter is the radio controller that you hold in your hand and usually powered by battery. The radio frequency let’s the transmitter relays the steering and controls the command you give to the receiver. Its receiver has two parts, the antenna and a circuit board inside the car. It receives the radio frequencies sent by the transmitter and relayed to the appropriate part of the vehicle.
Radio controlled vehicles features different type of engines. The motor is said to be the heart of the cars and is the most complex part of assembling your own RC car.
The nitro powered radio controlled motors has a 2-stroke or the less conventional 4-stroke version. The most popular is the 2-stroke motor because of its amazing 2.5 hp of output it produces. RC racers love the high speed and acceleration of this 2-stroke motor.
The 2-stroke motor is the 23cc displacement engine and it requires a fuel oil mixture. It is more suitable in car racing and has the advantage of producing higher rpm’s. On the other hand, 4-stroke motor can run on straight fuel and has an oil reservoir on it. It is better for off-road use and has more power and torque. It is more applicable in a truck that runs on dirt or rough tracks.
The electric car runs quietly and is better suited in your neighborhood while the nitro powered motors lets you feel the real car on racetracks. Electric radio controlled cars and trucks uses rechargeable batteries to run or power the motor and steering, which is usually runs for about 5-10 minutes. In terms of speed, electric motor vehicles have a great deal of pickup though not as much as nitro powered motors.
At first, electric RC cars can be much less expensive than a nitro powered vehicle. But there are other costs like additional battery packs, battery charger and other accessory the will add to the cost. Still, it depends on the kind of car you purchase and the battery pack that it requires. Of course for a good performance, you will purchase the good battery packs and good charger to save replacing cheaper batteries.
The good thing in electric motors is it doesn’t need much maintenance and tuning of its engine compare to nitro powered motor. It is more suitable for beginners because it only needs proper conditioning and proper storage of battery packs that will keep your RC cars running smoothly for years.
In addition, the motors come with or without a pull start. Those with pull start are cheaper, but you still need a starter box.

Bnc Connector
Use
The BNC connector is used for RF signal connections, for analog and Serial Digital Interface video signals, amateur radio antenna connections, aviation electronics (avionics) and many other types of electronic test equipment. It is an alternative to the RCA connector when used for composite video on commercial video devices, although many consumer electronics devices with RCA jacks can be used with BNC-only commercial video equipment via a simple adapter. BNC connectors were commonly used on 10base2 thin Ethernet networks, both on cable interconnections and network cards, though these have largely been replaced by newer Ethernet devices whose wiring does not use coaxial cable. Some ARCNET networks use BNC-terminated coax.
Specifications
BNC connectors exist in 50 and 75 ohm versions. Originally all were 50 ohm and were used with cables of other impedances, the small mismatch being negligible at lower frequencies. The 75 ohm types can sometimes be recognized by the reduced or absent dielectric in the mating ends. The different versions are designed to mate with each other, although the impedance mismatch in the cable may lead to signal reflections. Typically, they are specified for use at frequencies up to 4 and 2 GHz, respectively.
75 ohm BNC Connectors are primarily used for video and DS3 Telco central office applications whereas 50 ohm are used for data and RF. There was a convention in the BBC that BNC connectors used for video were always 50 ohm probably because a stray 50 ohm BNC plug would damage a 75 ohm socket if connected in error. Many VHF receivers used 75 ohm antenna inputs, so they often used 75 ohm BNC connectors.
History
The connector was named after its bayonet mount locking mechanism and its two inventors, Paul Neill of Bell Labs (inventor of the N connector) and Amphenol engineer Carl Concelman (inventor of the C connector). Other backronyms the BNC has picked up over the years include: aby Neill-Concelman, aby N connector, ritish Naval Connector, ayonet Nut Connector, ayonet Naval Connector. The basis for the development of the BNC connector was largely the work of Octavio M. Salati, a graduate of the Moore School of Electrical Engineering of the University of Pennsylvania (BSEE ’36, PhD ’63). He filed a patent in 1945 (granted 1951) while working at Hazeltine Electronics Corporation for a connector placed on coaxial cables that would minimize wave reflection/loss.
Similar connectors
The BNC connector is much smaller than the earlier N or the C connectors.
A threaded version of the BNC connector, known as the TNC connector (for Threaded Neill-Concelman) is also available. It has superior performance to the BNC connector at microwave frequencies.
Triaxial BNC connector
BNC connectors are commonly used in NIM electronics, but they are now often replaced by LEMO 00 miniature connectors which allow for higher densities. For higher voltages, MHV and SHV connectors are typically used. MHV connectors are easily mistaken for BNC connectors and can be made to mate with them by brute force. The SHV connector was developed as a safer alternative to MHV connectors and will not intermate with ordinary BNC connectors.
In the USSR, BNC connectors were copied as SR-50 (Russian: -50) and SR-75 (Russian: -75) connectors. These connectors have slightly different dimensions (as a result of recalculating from Imperial to Metric system), but are generally interchangeable with BNC, sometimes with force applied.
Twin BNC (also known as twinax) connectors use the same bayonet latching shell as an ordinary BNC connector but contain two independent contact points (one male and one female), allowing the connection of a 78 ohm or 95 ohm shielded differential pair such as RG-108A. They are capable of operation at 100 MHz and 100 volts. Twin BNC connectors will not intermate with ordinary BNC connectors.
Triaxial (also known as triax) connectors are a variant on BNC which carry both a signal and guard as well as ground conductor. These are used in sensitive electronic measurement systems, particularly of Keithley manufacture.[citation needed] Early ones were designed with just an extra inner conductor, but later tri-axial connectors also include a three-lug arrangement to rule out an accidental forced mating with a BNC connector. Adaptors exist to allow some interconnection possibilities between tri-ax and BNC connectors.

RC Toys Rocks The Children’s World
The happiest moment for a child, is when he receives a toy. The smile on his face and the excitement he shows will help us to understand how thrilled he is. Toys are not only for entertainment; it also educates the child and helps in developing his creative mind. Toys for one year old babies are usually very brightly colored with sounds, because toys stimulate the senses of touch, hearing and sight. Babies are extremely happy with toys that make sounds when they touch it. Babies learn about the toys when they start grabbing and pulling it.
Toys are not what it was in the olden days. In those days we usually find plastic toys or wooden toys which worked by turning the key and board games. Then battery operated toys were introduced in the market. But with the evolution of technology, the toys today that steal many children’s heart are the incredible remote control toys. These toys are awesome and the most fun toy available. The remote controlled toys come in various types like cars, planes, boats, trucks etc and they develop the mental skill of the children. For the little boys, the best RC toy will be the RC car, specially the Mario RC cars, which can be moved forward, backward, left and right, with the remote control. These toys are small and can be easily handled. Another popular RC toy is the RC plane.
Flying an RC plane or an RC helicopter is very easy. You should select an open space where there are no electric lines or high buildings nearby. You will need some practice before you can become an expert flyer. Flying is interesting and enjoyable and it also reduces stress and tension. Start your flying experience with cheap easy to fly RC helicopters which can be either purchased online or from the local store. Another interesting hobby is the RC boat, which is available in small and big sizes, and the two common types are racers and sports boat. For the remote control toys enthusiasts, a RC hovercraft is also an interesting toy. You can find simple ones for the kids and those which fly up to great distance in top speed for the hobbyist. Some other types of RC toys are RC truck, RC Buggie and RC tanks and latest introduced RC tarantula, RC Superman, RC I-Fly Wasp.
Today, the little hero’s are more thrilled holding an Airsoft gun, because it is the exact replica of an original weapon with plastic bullets. They are available in three types; The Electric Airsoft Gun, the Gas Airsoft Gun and the Spring Airsoft Gun.
