Will you continue to buy Chinese made products for your kids?

- Recalls of millions of Mattel toys found to contain lead paint….
- largescale recalls for dangerous parts of toys….

Now deaths of two babies from becoming trapped and died in their cots.
(US authorities have announced a recall of one million cots)

What next??

I for one won’t be buying anything ‘Made in China’ from now on.

Source – http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,22462362-2,00.html

Never have never will. But if you think of it, i don’t think it is China’s fault that the manufacturers don’t check the products coming from other countries to ensure that the fit the manufacturer’s standards. They should even do random testing to ensure that the safety standard are met on a regular base, they don’t have to wait until an accident occurs before they step in to take action. I mean consumers are paying and trusting that all of the best standards are met and such. Take for instance also, most recalls were first done because most toys had small magnets which were later determined to be harmful when children swallowed them and other small parts of the toys. If the manufacturer knew that it was well recognized and trusted globally, they should’ve put it into account in advance that children do take things and shove them in their own mouths which is quite dangerous alone already, add to it that they have magnet & other sharp or blunt parts and summed up with not meeting safety standards let alone quality standard. Made me suspicious from the very beginning. I first became a mom a few years ago but being the eldest in my family and having watched my half siblings experiment with every toy made me start watching out myself for the future. I can definietly simpithy with parents but the best thing to do out there is pay very close attention to anything that has anything to do with kids other wise we will be losing so many of them which is the very worst news any parent wants to hear or go through. Since this started happening i ceased to buy anything made from China i mean if our countries don’t watch out for us then why should the Chinese people? And us consumers by buying products from China despite the things happening, we are making it ok for China to continue in its destructive path and non-of them can be held accountable for anybody or creature’s death.

Barbie Dolls–history of the Most Popular Doll Ever

In 1959 the first Barbie doll was shown at the New York toy fair. Billed as “New For ’59,The Barbie Doll:A Shapely Teenage Fashion Model Price $3.00.” Thus was born the Barbie doll phenomenon which is certainly one of the greatest success stories in toy manufacturing. Prior to Barbie nearly all children’s dolls were child dolls rather than adult figures. Barbie changed all this.

In 1945 Elliot and Ruth Handler formed a partnership with Harold Matson to manufacture picture frames. The two names Matson and Elliot were combined to form the company name Mattel. Elliot used the picture frame wood scrap to make doll house furniture. This was the start of the Handler furniture business.

About this time Ruth noticed that her daughter Barbara and friends preferred to play with adult paper dolls rather than child or baby dolls. The girls preferred a doll which could be their role model when they grew up. Ruth realised that there could be big commercial possibilities in the adult doll market. She discussed the idea with her husband but he felt that it would be too expensive to start making the dolls.

Soon after this Ruth made a trip to Germany and purchased a doll called Lilli. This adult type doll was based on a German comic strip. On returning to the USA she began work to redesign the doll working with a doll clothes designer. The barbie doll was the result and it was named after Ruth’s daughter Barbara. The doll was patented by Mattel in 1958 and introduced in 1959. She was to become one of the most well known and well loved toys ever made.

Barbie soon became a collectors doll and was avidly sought after by adult collectors. From 1959 to 1972 the Barbie doll had seven distinct changes in her appearance and design. These Barbies made up to 1972 are recognised as vintage collectible dolls by their fans and are eagerly sought after. The 1959 Barbie doll in mint condition will sell for thousands of dollars. Some have sold for as much as $8000 to $10,000 but you can buy them for much less and $2000 to $3000 is quite common. Later editions fetch proportionately less. Dolls made in the 1969 to 1972 period can often be bought for a few dollars. Garage sales and flea markets are still the source of a few early dolls. About 300,000 of the 1959 Barbie were made and there are undoubtedly many out there still undiscovered.

Toyota’S Recall And Crisis Management 2.0

Crisis management is not just about contacting news outlets or writing an apologetic press release. In the digital age, crisis management requires swift, sweeping action on all digital fronts: social media, blogs and company websites. For the potentially long-term damage to Toyota’s no. 1 auto brand, you’d expect the Japanese automaker to be more proactive in managing the media firestorm surrounding its faulty floormats and accelerator pedals.

“It’s not good news because it hurts their image for quality and reliability,” said Thierry Huon, an auto analyst at Exane BNP in Paris to the NYT. “It’s not good advertising.” For a brand whose core competency is superior quality and leadership that needs to grow 50% in the next year to meet it’s ambitious goal of 15% global market share, the company could do better to manage its recent recall crisis.

Toyota has the opportunity to utilize social platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, to manage this branding crisis, but has shown a half-hearted effort. Facebook, the largest social network, is not being utilized by Toyota to reach out to its nearly 70,000 fans. While loyal fans stick up for the brand — for instance Ron Short points out GM is also recalling its vehicles — Toyota’s voice is silent. The Japanese car manufacturer is also under-utilizing its Twitter account to get the news to its 14,000 followers. Toyota has posted a mere six tweets regarding the recall — not as much as you might expect a brand in crisis management mode.

The consequences of poor crisis management could severely damage its reputation as the number one automotive brand, with $30.5 million brand earnings, according to Interbrand. Should we expect the Toyota brand to move down Interbrand’s list next year? Depends on how they manage the situation. At least for now, Toyota needs to stop the bleeding or it could cede its brand earnings to its automotive counterparts. Since Jan. 15, Toyota’s stock has tanked 430 points, or 10.4% while Honda and Ford have seen a mere 4.3% and 2.1% decline, respectively. While the auto market is slumping, Toyota’s stock is falling like a rock compared to its competitors. Toyota can minimalize damage through effective crisis management.

Successful crisis management requires timing, response and sincerity. Dr Rory Knight and Dr Deborah Pretty have performed extensive research in crisis management. They have studied the stock price of brands facing catastrophic failures (similar to Toyota). They bucketed those company’s whose stock price recovered to the level prior to the catastrophic event and those that did not recover. Knight and Pretty determined effective management is critical in the recovery of company value.

How can a be crisis managed well? Mattel Inc. faced a recall similar to Toyota when it retracted 28 of its products in 2007. The toy manufacturer reacted quickly to identify the problem and took immediate action to recall faulty products. To curb a public outcry, Mattel worked closely with the media. At the end of the day, Mattel…

What is the value of this mint in box Barbie by Mattel doll?

Does anyone know the value of a 1962 Reissued Mattel Barbie. She has a red coat and red hat on and a white dress . She looks like Jackie Kennedy. She is in mint condition.

I have this doll but thanks to my wonderful child mine is no longer mint in her box. Anyway anytime I am trying to check the potential value on a doll I own I check with ebay. I just looked and did not see her. You might also be able to find a book at the library that has value lists for collectibles. when the doll was new she was about $40-50. The barbie auction market is not very hot right now which is why a collectibles book might be a better option to find a value.

Monster High Dolls – Fashion Dolls With Monster Appeal

Monster High Dolls are here which is very thrilling news for doll lovers. Monster High Dolls are new from Mattel and are part of their recent entertainment franchise. Monster High Dolls are really cool teenaged children that all come from famous monsters. They all attend Monster High where they experience regular teenage moments such as trying to fit in and make friends. Monster High Dolls are a breath of fresh air for their uniqueness which a lot of people will appreciate.

Monster High Dolls have a touch of weirdness about them but it’s done with humor and lots of style. They all look fabulous and have great fashion sense. Each doll comes with a pet, an accessory, a brush, a stand and a diary with a secret code that can unlock things on the website. The code gives you inside information on new characters, games and activities. The characters are all unique as they each have their own freaky flaw such as frankie Stein comin apart at the seams. So let’s introduce the characters:

Frankie Stein

The daughter of Frankenstein and his bride. She’s 15 years old and comes with her pet Watzit which is made up of all different animal parts.

Draculaura

The daughter of Count Dracula. She’s centuries old but wow! she looks amazing. She comes with her pet bat Count Fabulous.

Clawdeen Wolf

The daughter of the Werewolf. She’s 15 years old and comes with her little kitten, Crescent.

Lagoona Blue

The daughter of a Seamonster. She’s 15 years old and comes with her pet pirahna, Neptuna.

Cleo De Nile

The daughter of The Mummy. She’s the egyptian princess who’s over 5 thousand years old and like Draculaura she’s very well preserved. She comes with her pet cobra, Hissette.

Deuce Gorgon

The son of Medusa. He’s 16 years old and comes with his pet rat, Perseus.

Cleo De Nile and Deuce Gorgon are the highschool sweethearts and the popular cool couple. Cleo is the mean girl of the school (every school has one) and Deuce is her super cool boyfriend. Frankie Stein, Draculaura and Clawdeen Wolf are BFF’s. Lagoona Blue fits in everywhere.

So far Mattell hasn’t released a full range of dolls clothes but that is all to come. Monster High Dolls are a bit larger than Bratz but until additional clothes are available Bratz clothes will fit. The dolls are all articulated with the arms coming apart at the wrists and elbows to make it easier to dress them. This does make them unsuitable for younger children and the fact that the earrings also can be changed. However there is a plush version for the younger kids. Yes, Mattel has thought of everything.

Mattel has big plans for the Monster High Franchise. There’s an interactive website where you can watch animated webisodes. Mattel is planning to release a further collection of dolls called “Dawn Of The Dance” where the dolls will be wearing 80′s style clothes to the school dance. A full live action feature film is coming out with Universal pictures which will propel Monster High even further.

Of course a Universal Picture can’t be released without a full range of clothes, handbags, shoes, fashion accessories, hair accessories, jewelry, socks, slippers, costumes, you name it Monster High will have it. There’s a series of Monster High books written by Lisi Harrison who is the New York Times #1 best selling young adult author which will be released over the coming years. An animated 30 minute special is coming featuring music from “American Idol” star Allison Iraheta.

Twilight has launched a worldwide phenomenon with vampires and werewolves but there’s a whole demographic of kids that are just a bit too young for that but are just as equally fascinated by all things ghoulish. Monster High will definitely appeal to them. Monster High Dolls are going to be a monstrous hit.

Are Monster High Dolls for you?

Let’s see, there’s nothing on the market like them. They’re unique and different and will appeal to not only kids but adults who love collecting dolls. Horror fans are going to love these dolls. They are also drop dead gorgeous as well as freaky so those who love fashion are gonna love em. In fact Monster High dolls will appeal to everyone.

Check out each Monster High Doll and their freaky flaw. Check out Lagoona Blue to her her casual surfer chick style. Finally a set of dolls that are truly a breath of fresh air.

About the Author

I absolutely love dolls.! They have universal appeal. Everyone loves them! Boys have action figures, girls love fashion dolls or baby dolls, adults can collect porcelain dolls or horror dolls. There’s something for everyone in the wide world of dolls. At the moment I love Monster High Dolls for their unique style. My favorite Monster High Doll is Frankie Stein, she’s so cool and I love her fashion sense.

Dress Up Games Everyone Should Try

Playing dress up games is an adventure in and of itself. When you have a chance to play the dress up games, you’ll see why they are among the most enjoyed sort of internet game available online. These simple games are highly addictive and until you play them and get to flex that creative muscle, it’s almost normal to not fully understand why.

Barbie Dress Up Games
We all loved Barbies growing up, so why stop now? Barbie grew up with us and moved online so that now it’s easier than ever to enjoy her again. If you love Barbie games, simply head online and find a dress up game designed around Barbie. To play the games, you’ll start with a Barbie base and a huge number of clothing and accessory options. Add clothing and accessories to the base until you have a full outfit and look you really like. The finished effect is one even better than the Barbie dolls you dressed up as a child because you’re now able to make changes and selections in a heartbeat. It’s more about fashion than keeping up with those tiny little shoes.

Bratz Dress Up Games
Bratz are in a bit of a limbo situation at the moment. The Bratz dolls have been under fire in the legal system and things haven’t been looking up for the dolls. The Bratz dolls didn’t survive the first round of lawsuits but now are hanging in by a thread. Of course, Mattel, who won the lawsuit, is planning to release their own line of Bratz dolls, but who knows how that will turn out. In the meantime, you can still love and enjoy your favorite Bratz characters online in the online dress up games. Find a Bratz doll online and dress her up in the sporty and urban chic clothing lines.

Princess Dress Up Games
Who hasn’t wanted to be a princess? Being a princess in real life might be a bit challenging for most of us since we lack royal blood and royal boyfriends, but you can always be a princess online. Start with a doll base and dig through the huge selections of ball gowns and formal outfits. It’s no small thrill to create a princess in her luxury ball gown with all the frills and lace. The final design is likely one of regal elegance and beauty. Of course, you’ll want to be sure that you’ve completed the design and topped off the princess with her crown or tiara.

Goth Dress Up Games
If you’re anything like me, you’ve wondered more than a few times what the difference is between goth clothing styles and the rest of us. Why would you want to dress in black all of the time anyhow? Goth dress up games give you a chance to find out. The games give you the customary doll to play with an a wide selection of dark clothing styles that would be at home on a vampire. Add those clothing items to your doll base, throw on some dark hair and some light skin and your goth design is complete!

Mattel Barbie History
Ladies, how many of you had a “Barbie Doll” when you were coming up as a kid ?

Barbie turns 50 today. You know, the busty, blonde, bimbo girl from
Mattel I believe. And she has a boyfriend named Ken. Rumor has it
that he may be gay. Anyway, 50 years of Barbie. You would think
that by now, people would be more understanding and sympathetic
to the so called bimbo gal down the street. Now there have been some
major advancements throughout history. The Women’s movement came along in the 1970′s. Then they demanded that Barbie be treated
with respect. So as a result, you see more cosmopolitan style Barbie
Dolls on the market, and some of them are even housewives. How
about that. Well let me ask you this. Have you ever had a Barbie
Doll when you were coming up as a kid. I had one before, but not as a child. But she
was a real live one. Her name was Tammy. He, he, he, he…………
(laughing to myself like Homer Simpson)
Tell us if you don’t mind. What do you
think about the whole Barbie Doll
ideology………………

I’ll admit it,i was obsessed with Barbie dolls when i was a kid.I had about 10 Barbies and still wanted more.Never been interested into having Ken,though.Oh,and never even thought to be like Barbie,it’s never been my wish….Just liked them because they were the best looking toys out there and liked their blonde hair(had a fascination for their hair).Never thought of them as role models,or hot,or sexy. And i never wanted to have a body like theirs.Plus, even as a child,i still thought their body was disproportionate and unrealistic,so i never took them seriously. But always liked them with really really long hair.
And,another reason why i liked them so much was,(ok,this is going to sound self-absorbed) that i used to have my hair really long throughout my childhood and was really really proud of it.So,yeah, that’s why i was so crazy abt their hair.
However, once i grew up to be a pre-teen,became tomboy….now i’m 21 and still am a tomboy, not as much as back when i was 13-18,but,still basicly am.So no,just because one liked/s Barbies, doesn’t mean they will become or have become or is a bimbo.

Barbie Magic Genie Bottle & CD-ROM

$19.99

Was Mattel’s Barbie Magic Genie Bottle & CD-ROM more inspired by I Dream of Jeannie or Christina Aguilera?
