If you have the funds try changing it over to brushless,you will get well over 15-25 minutes of run time with a good lipo,as for the batts that you running now I would think you are talking about 3000 or 1500 nimh and not nicad,you dont want to run the nimh batts all the way down and do slow charges on them,those batts should have longer run time than that specially the 3000,check your motor temps and check gearing.
