Is putting two NiMh batteries in parallel a good idea?

I want to increase run times in my RC car (traxxas slash 4×4)
I was wondering if putting say two 5300mah in parallel batteries is a good idea?

The problems i see are:
#Extra run times means overheating
#The second battery will need a bit of DIY to make it secure
#Decreases reliability
#weight and balance (although my car is almost too light! and flips all the time)
#Decreased speed due to added weight

Please correct me if i am wrong about the problems above

I am going to use a ready made traxxas parallel connector so soldering will not be a problem, so what do you think is it a good idea?

you don’t say what voltage the car runs at – are there, say, 4 or 5 cells to make 5 or 6 volts ? If you are talking about a single cell, or a second battery in parallel with an existing one, there is probably no electricsl reason why you shouldn’t do it, but you have mentioned several disadvantages. Why can’t you just keep a spare (or 2 ?) and change the battery over – does the run time have to be uninterrupted ?
That would seem to me to be the most sensible thing to do.
