Charging an RC car battery?
Hello I am trying to start getting into RC cars so i bought a Traxxas Slash, and the people at the hobby store said i should get a Orion 7 Cell 8.4V 4500mAh Stick Pack w/Trx Plug https://www.hobbypeople.net/gallery/358320.asp and for the charger a Pro-Peak AC Delta 3 (2/3.5/5A)F.Chg (http://www.ripmax.com/item.asp?itemid=O-IP1505&Category=O0050 and yes they also sold me the Traxxas adapter) but they didnt tell me how long i should charge the battery for, and i have also read that trickle charge isnt recommended, if i could get some help and tips that would be great thank you very much.
Well when I connect the battery to the charger it only stays on red for about 5 minutes then it goes to green, and when I put it in the car it barely moves. Is this normal or is the charger bad?
HI,
your charger has Selection switch for 2-3.5-5 amps from your link it has a fast charge on it. Charge at 3.5 at first it should have a led light on it some place that tells you it’s in fast charge. When it go’s to trickle it will change color or flash witch tells you you are in trickle mode. All trickle really means is that the battery is charged and the charger is just putting very little in to it. Charge time may take 20 minutes to ? hours but. to keep you pack good for a while and get a deep charge 3.5 would be good for it and then you can go up to the 5 amps witch will charge it faster for you.
