Anybody here old enough to remember Mattell Toy cartoon character Mattie Mattell?
Mattell made many little girls and some boys happy with their Barbie Dolls.
But Mattell made the stocks for the original M16 Light Machine Gun that is still in use.
At first Mattell telll put their logo, M in a circle, on the gun stocks but later stopped the practice due to bad PR.
The United Stated of Army issued me a “Mattie Mattel” in 1968 even though I did not ask them for one.
To have a machine gun with Barbie’s company logo stamped on it is sort of bizarree, don’t you think?

MATTY MATELL was based on a concept by Mattel co-founder Elliot Handler. The character of “Matty” derived his name from Mattel, which in turn was named after founders, Harold Mattson and Elliot Handler – thus the hybrid name of Matt + El (short for Elliot) yielded Mattel. This serrated seal, sometimes referred to as ‘The Mattel’, had a giant letter M in the center with a small boy shown waving, and wearing a crown on his head… this was Matty.
