Exceeding Customer Expectations Definition
Exceeding Expectations Should be the Number One Business Goal
As a customer, you may wonder if the business you choose to work with going to exceed your expectations. Exceeding Expectations means that you will go above what you have to do and move into what you should do. It means that the customer will walk away from the transaction feeling like they just hit a home run. They didn’t have a foul ball or knock someone over, but they hit it out of the field. Customers do not get to have that feeling anymore or not as often as they should.
Exceeding expectations is the name of the game for business success. Businesses should position themselves to be number 1 in customer satisfaction. This does not mean achieving some glass goal that they put on their shelves and talk about. This means that the customer interaction mean much more to them than a dollar can show. Long term success means that you are in it for the long hall. You want this transaction as well as the thirtieth transaction to be great.
How do businesses find a way to get into the exceeding expectations category? It’s very simple. Businesses that listen to their customer and try to anticipate their needs will help them get above their competition in this category. If you sell widgets in several sizes and a customer comes in to your store looking for a large one, you don’t show them the small one and work your way up. It is best to not waste the customer’s time and your own. When you have saved someone’s time, you can see it in their face. It is like a big exhale let out. They may have thought that they would have to fight you for a specific product or service and when they find out the transaction will go smoothly, you can almost hear the breath seep out. You can get more flies with honey than anything else. Don’t take it out on your customer if you are having a bad day.
Business to business transactions are not out of the woods. When working with another business you can fall into the exceeding expectations category. In fact, you have a better chance for doing it with a fellow business owner. You know what it’s like to run a business and you can definitely empathize with what they are going through. Knowing that you need to ask fact finding questions to really help your business customer is what it’s all about.
