What Does the Customer Expect of You?

In these troubling economic times, people are more aware of how, when, and where they spend their money.  They are very careful about who they do business with.  This makes the job, whether you own the business or not, of acquiring and keeping the customer harder. However, you have the power of either losing the customer or creating a loyal customer.   We all would like to do the latter; therefore, you have the responsibility to serve the customer the best that you can.  At the very least, you MUST meet the customer’s expectations, or risk losing the customer to the competition.  This means, to obtain customer satisfaction, you must understand what the customer wants and expects from you and your company.

 

What does the customer expect of you and your company?  Here are listed five expectations that all customers have of you:

 

1).  To be accurate- they want what they ordered, and how they ordered it.  They expect to get it when it was promised and to be billed the price that was quoted.

 

2). Your attention-They want you to listen and be engaged in their problems.  This means they want your response to show that you care about their problems.

 

3). To value their time- time is most valuable to all of us.  The customer wants you to value and not waste his time.  He wants all transactions to be completed in a timely fashion, and if a problem occurs he wants a fast solution.  If you are at a loss for finding a solution then an attempt should be made to either help them yourself or find some one who can help them.

 

4). To have knowledge- The customer expects you to be knowledgeable enough to solve or attempt to solve his problems.  They expect you to have an unlimited acquaintance with the product and to be able to answers their questions about the product.

 

5).  To provide a human touch- They want to be served by a “human’ not a robot who reads from a script.  They want you to see things from their perspective.  They want you to treat them with compassion and not as a transaction. Therefore, when greeting the customer, stop and think what you would want in that situation.

 

 

By acting on the aforementioned customer expectations, you can stand out from your competition in a positive light.  Once you learn the customers’ expectations you can then find ways to exceed their expectations.  This will ensure customer satisfaction and their loyalty to you and your company.
