Axial Strain
Axial Strain

Engineering Question: Calculate the reduction in length which took place.?
A cloumn 1.2 long was subjected to an axial compressive force and the strain recorded, using a strain gauge, was 0.001. Calculate the reducation in length which took place.
Regards
Assuming an elastic material.
Original length of column = 1.2 m (I guess the units)
Strain = .001
Reduction in length when loaded = Strain * Original length
= 1.2*.001 = .0012 m.

Dynamic Response of Pre-Stressed Spatially Curved Thin-Walled Beams of Open Profile (SpringerBriefs in Applied Sciences and Technology) $44.21 This short book analyses the dynamic stability with respect to small perturbations, as well as the local damage of geometrically nonlinear elastic, spatially curved, open section beams with axial precompression. Transient waves, which are the surfaces of strong discontinuity and wherein the stress and strain fields experience discontinuities, are used as small perturbations; in so doing the discon… |
