Axial Strain Equation
Axial Strain Equation
What does it mean when an axial strain produces yield?
The problem says that an axial strain produces a yield of 2 mm on a support A. What does it mean? Do I have to include it on what equation?
The problem says that the axial strain causes support A to yield by 2 mm. What does it mean?
I’m an Electrical Engineer, not Mechanical, but from the way the problem is stated, I would assume it means displacement, not “yield” as commonly defined. i.e., I would assume the material is in the elastic stress-strain mode The “yield” strength is the stress required to produce a small amount of plastic deformation, but if in the elastic or “straight line” mode Hooke’s Law applies (the ratio of stress to strain is a constant).
