Endometriosis 22 – Types of Diagnosis

As we mentioned in previous articles during the last stage of the menstrual cycle normally a layer of endometriosis lining in the inside of the uterus is expelled, known as menstruation blood but instead some of the endometriosis tissues grow somewhere in the body causing endometriosis. If woman suffered from the symptoms, such as severe period pain, difficult to get pregnant, pain during sex, pain elevate to ward the end of period, premenstrual symptoms, heavy period and endometriosis is suspected, then the following diagnosis may be ordered depending on the woman health history.

1. Ultra sound
Ultrasound is cyclic sound pressure with a high frequency that can not be heard by human ears. It penetrates a medium and measure the reflection signature or supply focused energy helping to reveal details about the inner structure of women body such as pictures of fetuses in the uterus. In endometriosis, ultra sound is used to see adenomyosis or endometriosis cysts in the ovaries because of their darken appearance. Unfortunately, ultra sound can not reveal endometriosis in the pelvic cavity or small and less dense endometriosis.

2. Culdocentesis
Culdocentesis is a procedure that checks for abnormal fluid in the space just behind the vagina.
In this type pf diagnosis, after the pelvic exam, the cervix, is grasped with an instrument and lifted slightly then A sample of fluid is taken by a long, thin needle that is inserted through the vaginal wall. The sample will be checked for any existence of endometrial tissues.

3. Cystoscopy
Diagnostic cystoscopy is usually carried out with local anaesthesia. The cystoscope is as thick as a pencil and has a light at the tip. It helps your doctor to see inside of urethra, ureters and bladder and check for existence of endometriosis cysts.

4. Hysteroscopy
A small instrument called a hysteroscope is a thin instrument that your doctor uses to pass through your vagina and cervix into the uterus to check for existence of endometrial cysts.

5. Computed axial tomograghy (CT scanning or CAT)
CAT is computer analysis of a series of cross-sectional scans made along a single axis and produce a 3 dimensional image of woman’ abdomen. Images taken by CAT will help your doctor to check for endometrial cysts.

6. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
MR imaging uses magnetic field, radio frequency pulses and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues such as abdomen to check for any existence of endometrial tissues.

7. Electron beam tomography (EBT)
An ultra high speed electron beam traverses through out the body in a few seconds with minimum radiation exposure and produce a 3 dimensional image of the abdomen. the image will capture any endometrial tissues in the regions.
