Trek 3500 or GT Outpost Disc?
anyone knows what bicycle is better?
Trek 3500 (2010):
Frame: Alpha White Aluminum w/externally relieved head tube, bi-axial down tube, disc compatible dropouts
Suspension: SR Suntour M-2025 w/coil spring, 63mm
Wheels: Alloy FM31 hubs; Bontrager 550 rims w/brushed sidewalls
Crankset: Shimano M151 48/38/28
Rear derailleur: Shimano TX31 Tourney
GT Outpost Disc (2010):
Frame: 6061, Triple Triangle, with Dirt Worthy Geometry, disc compatible with removeable hanger (24 inch wheel not removable)
Suspension: SR M 3000, alloy crown, alloy lowers with 75 mm travel
Wheels: Alex ASD-1 double wall, anodized black
Crankset: Suntour XCC-T02, 42,32,22
Rear derailleur: Shimano Acera
GT. Double wall wheels (rims) are stronger. Rear derailleur on the GT is a Shimano Acera – one of the better ones. On the Trek a Shimano TX31 Tourney – bottom of the totem pole for Shimano.
Crankset: Suntour XCC-T02, 42,32,22 on the GT. Lower gears than on the Trek. This will enable better ability to climb hills & cross rough terrain. On the GT – 75mm travel on the forks. On the Trek only 63mm of travel. That extra 12mm is equal to almost one-half inch of extra travel on the front forks to soak up bumps, ruts, potholes, etc.
The GT also has an 8 speed rear cog (gears). This is undoubtedly a cassette hub vs. a freewheel hub on the Trek. Much better. Spend the extra $90.00. It’s worth it.
