Not durable
Rating:2 out of 5 stars
This was a present for my six year old son. It lasted one afternoon before it stopped working. Well he had fun for an hour or two.
Pretty fun, a few flaws, feels kind of cheap
Rating:3 out of 5 stars
First the good: a fun, easy to control RC truck for my twin 4 year old boys (well, 4 years and 9 months).
Now the bad:
We’ve had it for one day, and the front “Ford” sticker has already fallen off.
The on-off switch is really tough to use- it feels cheap, like it’s going to snap off.
The car doesn’t go consistently. You push the remote to make it go forward, and then it stops after a few feet, then you have to release the control and push it forward again (kind of like pulsing it on and off).
The antenna on the car and on the remote is a thin flexible wire, with a very thin tube/straw thingy to keep it upright. The tube/straw things keep falling off, and the boys need me to thread the wire back through the tube. This has happened about 8 times in about a total of 30 minutes of play. Not tough to do, but kind of annoying.
Other than that, a pretty fun toy. Overall, probably not the best value for the money, but so far, the kids seem to enjoy it. Just based on the overall cheap feel of the thing, I’m not expecting it to last long. I bought it primarily because my one son asked for “a monster truck what could drive on the dirt and grass,” but I don’t think I will let them take it outside. I’m not sure it could handle it. We paid $20 for it, and that seems a bit pricey for the quality of this toy. $20 will buy you some pretty cool toys these days, and this toy just isn’t what I would expect for $20. It’s more like what I would expect for $9.99.
EDITED TO ADD:
Today is January 6- this was a Christmas present. It pretty much stopped working by 12/28. I replaced the batteries on 1/3/09 to see if that would help (brand new, brand name batteries). The toy worked (the same kind of “worked” I described above- at about 60% of what it should) for a few hours, and now, again, nothing.
I’ve changed my stars from 3 to 1. I call this thing a total piece of junk, and as soon as I’m done with the review I’ll be contacting Amazon about a return.
