Don't Buy Any Radio Controlled Trucks Before You Read This!

There are many different kinds of radio controlled trucks, and they usually come in two categories, either 'toy,' or 'hobby' style. They are run on small but powerful motors that run by electricity, gas, or a nitro fuel, which is a higher-grade fuel mixture. Many of the toy versions of these trucks run on 9.6V battery packs, which are rechargeable. You will also have a set of batteries for the radio control as well, either in the "AA" style, or a 9Volt single battery, depending on the size of the truck itself.

Toy radio controlled trucks are mostly for beginners, or kids. They are easily controlled, and many times come ready to run, which means there is not real assembly. These are mainly battery pack powered, and run for various lengths of time depending on the terrain. The price for these models is relatively low, and you can pick up cheap and simple ones for about ten bucks. They can get more expensive, and some larger styles are well over $100. The bigger they are and the more intricate, the more expensive they are. However, they are still a great way to pass the time with your kids, since you can purchase some dual truck models to race each other.

If you are serious about radio controlled trucks, then the hobby model is the way to go. Many of these trucks come in kits, and you have to put the truck together, attach the gas tanks, the motor, and all the servos for the controller. While there are some that are powered by electric motors, for the most part these are gas or nitro fueled. The price tag on these trucks is much higher than their toy counter parts, and even the cheapest models can be $100 or more. They can be quite complicated to put together, and have many delicate parts, such as the shock absorbers, suspension, and steering mechanisms. A few of these do come as ready to run however, if you are one of those people who don't want these hassles and just want to run your truck.

There are a few things you should know about purchasing your radio controlled trucks. One is that before you just go out and buy the first thing you see, you should really think about your skill level. If you are just beginning at this hobby, and never run an RC truck before, you should start out with the toy models. For one thing, they are going to be cheaper and easier to deal with than the hobby models. You can learn how they run, and how the radio controller works. Driving an RC truck is much different than driving your own vehicle, and is more involved. Practicing with one of these simpler models to get used to everything is better than buying an expensive model and wrecking it quickly.

There are some pros and cons about the different types of motors. Electric motors, with their battery packs, are slower, but some can last longer running. They do take longer to charge up than just refilling the gas tanks, but there is less hassle. Your gas and nitro fuels are going to run your truck much faster than electric, but the tanks are very small, and only run for a short time before you have to fill them again.
